Druther's is a restaurant, formerly a chain of fast-food restaurants that started as a Louisville, Kentucky-based Burger Queen restaurant from 1963 to 1981. Its name is a play on the word " Druthers ", and the mascot is a giant female bee called Queenie Bee. In 1981, Burger Queen turned into a Druther restaurant, although most of the changes were cosmetic. One of the reasons given for the name change is to dispel the perception that they specialize in just hamburgers when they also have fried chicken and salad salad serve themselves. Druther features a character named "Andy Dandytale" on his children's food items (and a live-action version in the initial TV commercial). The chain slogan is "I'm going to Ruther Go to Druther's Restaurant."

Histori

The first Burger Queen was built in Middletown, Kentucky, in 1963, and the original building still stands opposite the Dairy Queen at 11806 Shelbyville Road. The second location of Burger Queen in Middletown is now Dairy Queen. The chain mascot is Queenie Bee.

The company originally started in Middletown in 1963 as a franchise of a Florida-based company by Louisville partner James Gannon and brothers George and John Clark. The Louisville Company has finally bought a Florida-based company. George Clark eventually became CEO while his other colleagues left the company.

The Company opened its 50th location in December 1973 in Danville and has locations in Kentucky, Indiana and Tennessee at the time of opening.

In June 1981, Burger Queen Enterprises Inc. announced that it changed its name to Druther's International Inc. and changed the restaurant's names from Burger Queen to Druther's Restaurant. Despite the change of name, the management and menu remain the same. At the time of the announcement, the company operates 171 owned companies and franchise locations in seven states in the United States and also has international franchises in the UK, Canada, the Republic of China and the United Arab Emirates.

In September 1990, private company Druther's International Inc. became a Dairy Queen franchise and was able to convert most of its restaurants into the Dairy Queen brand by the end of the first quarter of 1991. The Druther brand was discontinued as a result of the conversion. At the time of conversion, Druther has operated 145 restaurants in Kentucky and surrounding countries. Druther's International later renamed Druther's Systems Inc. to better fit the new roll as a Dairy Queen franchise operator.

In 1996, International Dairy Queen Inc. bought 31 Dairy Queen/Brazier outlets in Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana from Druther's Systems Inc. with an undisclosed price.

The former Druther location in Louisville, Kentucky is now another place of business like Burger King and a local liquor store called Our Place Liquors. The last operation of Druther, a former franchise, is in Campbellsville, Kentucky.
