Charlie Hides (born July 12, 1964) is a transvestite, imitator, actor and comedian born in America. Hides is known for his YouTube channel, and his participation in the ninth season of RuPaul's Drag Race. After live performances at London clubs, Hides started his YouTube channel in March 2011. He has produced hundreds of videos that quip popular culture, and disguised as celebrities like Cher, Madonna, Lady Gaga, and Lana Del Rey.

Hides was born in Boston, Massachusetts on July 12, 1964. He attended Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Hides is openly gay, and in 2004 married his partner James Hides in the town of Provincetown, Massachusetts. He currently lives in London and has a lot of citizenship, becoming a citizen of the United States, Britain, and Ireland.

After the creation of his channel, he uploaded several videos he used in live performances and comedy routines. In 2013, Hides uploaded a sketch starring Australian singer and actress, Kylie Minogue. He disguised as Cher during a phone call with Minogue. In 2015, Hides starred in Big Brother's Bit on the Side TV show, where she disguised as a celebrity while commenting on contestants Celebrity Big Brother . Hides also has a cameo role in the movie Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie , as a dragmer. In 2014, The Charlie Hides Show aired on London Live as a pilot show, combining elements from live performances and its YouTube channel.
Hides occasionally grabs the attention of some of the actions he imitates. In a 2013 interview with Herald Sun, Cher said that Hides is his favorite "Cher's disguise". When Lady Gaga was in London, she sent flowers to Hides, next to a note. Hides also stated that Liza Minnelli, Elton John and Kris Jenner had been "excellent".
Drag Race RuPaul
On February 2nd, 2017, Logo TV announced that Hides will participate as a contestant in the ninth season of the American reality competition RuPaul's Drag Race. In 2017, Hides is the oldest contestant to participate in Drag Race. First season on March 24, 2017 at VH1. In an interview with BBC News Newsbeat , Hides said:
The transvestite label is not just a cookie cutter, one size fits all types of labels. There is a cheerful girl, there are comics, there is a celebrity imitator. There are different types of queens under the sun. That is one of the things that Drag Race has shown for nine seasons. There are many different ways to express yourself using this art form.
You'd think it's just a gay man, but it has a lot of female followers watching for fashion. They are watching for a colorful sense of humor and then they identify with us. The contestants are human and are not only seen as some dancing clowns or as freaks. We definitely need laughter, sunshine, brightness and color. Queen drag is challenging. We are a counter-culture, an opposition party. We are everything that the majority of morale and small-minded fanatics.
On the fourth episode of the show, entitled "Good Morning Bitches", Hides was knocked out of the competition. He was placed under two by a judge, and therefore had to participate in "Lip-Sync for Your Life" for Britney Spears "I Wanna Go" against fellow contestant Trinity Taylor. Hides commented on lip-sync, saying that the self-described "disaster" was the result of a cracked rib, due to the cheerleading challenges of several previous episodes. In the episode challenge, Hides was criticized for her performance in the episode talk show segment. The morning after elimination, Hides uploaded a music video for his new single, "The Dame".
Controversy
In December 2015, Hides was accused of using blackface and ethnic stereotypes to represent one of his characters, Laquisha Jonz. An activist, Chardine Taylor-Stone, launched a petition on the Change.org website, calling on the Royal Vauxhall Tavern, and other places, to cancel the Hides show. Taylor-Stone claims that the character is "a racist act based on the misogynous stereotype of black working-class women, it is outdated, offensive, embarrassing and has no place in the LGBT Community". As a result, Hides stated that he would no longer use the characters in his appearance.
