Sydenham is a neighborhood located in downtown Kingston, Ontario, Canada. The Sydenham District for census purposes is limited by Lake Ontario to the south and east, by Princess Street to the north and Barrie Street to the west. These limits do not fit the boundaries of Sydenham Ward for the city council elections as they belong to a part of the main street in the city center.
The average family income for the area is $ 85,636 which is much higher than the city average. This is due to the proximity of the neighborhood with Queen's University. The Sydenham neighborhood has a mixture of business and retail usage on the east and north as it approaches Princess Street, which is the main business district in downtown Kingston. The majority of the environment however is a mix of permanent homes and rental accommodation for students. Many of Kingston's historic limestone structures can be found in the Sydenham neighborhood.
This neighborhood is home to the Canadian Head Office at Empire Life Financial at King & amp; Johnson Streets and is one of Kingston's largest companies with 550 full-time employees.
