Queen Mary Park is a mature housing environment in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada located outside of the city center. This neighborhood occupies land that was once part of the Hudson Bay reserve.

This community is represented by an active Queen Mary Park Community League, founded in 1952, which runs a village hall located at 117th Street and 108th Avenue.

Demographics

In the Edmonton City Census of 2012, Queen Mary Park has a population of 7,385 living in 4,708 dwellings, a 13.4% change from the 2009 population of 6,513. With a land area of ​​1.82 km 2 (0.70Ã, sqÃ, mi), it has a population density of 4,057.7 km/km 2 in 2012.

Housing development

It is bordered north by 111 Avenue, south by 105 Avenue, to the west by 121 Street, and to the east by 109 Street. The old Canadian National Railways are just south and just to the west of the neighborhood. The southern boundary of the south-western corner curves, following the right of the road as it changes from east-west to north-south.

Almost three of the four living quarters in the neighborhood were built during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Most residences, almost four out of five, are rented out. Nearly 85% of residences in this neighborhood are apartments in low-rise buildings with fewer than five levels. Four of the five apartments are rented out, with the rest occupied by the owners. Of the remaining residences, the majority are single-family residences, with about three out of four occupied owners. There are several duplexes, and most are rented out.

With the construction of new downtown arenas and the expansion of MacEwan University, condo construction has begun on the southern edge of Queen Mary Park spurring gentrification throughout the neighborhood. New condominium buildings include The Maxx, The Zen, The Horizon, and speculation of a nine-story building bordered by Oliver Square.

The Holland Plaza, which is a garment factory for much of its past, opened in 2016 as a local business hub. It's anchored by CafÃÆ' © Linnea, who has been featured in Globe and Mail and EnRoute Magazine. Holland Plaza also has the best brunch restaurant in Edmonton according to Avenue Magazine, Local Omnivore, as well as the Donat Wine and Party Gallery.

The average household size is 1.8 people per household, with about one in two households having only one person.

To date, one of the most prominent structures in the neighborhood is the Pentecostal Tabernacle of the Center. However, the trial moved to a new church in northwest Edmonton and the old building was sold. It was dismantled in 2007.

The neighborhood is named after Mary of Teck, the queen for George V, and therefore the Queen of Canada from 1910 to 1936.
