Binion Gambling Hall & amp; The Hotel, formerly Binion's Horseshoe , is a casino on Fremont Street along the Fremont Street Experience street in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. Owned by TLC Casino Enterprises. The casino is named for its founder, Benny Binion, whose family run it since it was founded in 1951 to 2004. The hotel, which has 366 rooms, was closed in 2009.

Benny Binion bought the Eldorado Club and Apache Hotel in 1951, reopening them as Binion's Horseshoe (also called Horseshoe Casino). The interior of the casino has a sense of border, like an old style river boat, with low ceilings and velvety wallpaper. It was the first casino in downtown Las Vegas (also called Glitter Gulch) to replace the sawdust-covered floor with carpets, and was the first to offer comps for all gamblers, not just those who bet on big bucks. Binion also sets a high table boundary. When Binion first opened Horseshoe, he set a dice table limit of $ 500 - ten times higher than any other casino in Las Vegas at the time. Finally, Binion raises the table boundary to $ 10,000 and even removes the full table limit, which is a direct hit.
Unlike other casinos, the emphasis on Binion is on gambling, not on big-performance acts. The casino is also very egalitarian; no private holes for high rollers.

Benny served at the Leavenworth Correctional Institution from 1953 to 1957 to avoid taxes. He sold the majority of casino shares to fellow gamblers and New Orleans, Joe W. Brown, to cover taxes and legal fees. It was generally understood, however, that Brown was only the caretaker, and Benny regained control in 1957. He did not regain full control, however, until 1964.
While Brown operates a casino, he installs a famous $ 1 million screen on the casino floor. He sold the screen in 1959 and then remade using 100 $ 10,000 bills by Benny in 1964. The screen became one of the casino attractions.
As a convicted prisoner, Benny is no longer allowed to hold a game license, so his son takes control of the day-to-day when the family buys Brown. Jack became president while Ted became a casino manager. Benny took over the position of Director of Public Relations.
In 1970, Jack began hosting the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Horseshoe. Finally, WSOP became the world's largest poker tournament. In 1988, Horseshoe expanded by acquiring The Mint, a high-rise hotel on the west side of the casino. The casino expansion of this purchase provides space for Binion's first poker room.
Ted was under the watchful eye of the Nevada Gaming Commission from 1986 onwards for drug problems and hanging out with the mass figure known as "Fat Herbie" Blitzstein. He will eventually be banned from even entering his family casino. In 1998, he revoked his playing permit for continued association with Blitzstein. He is forced to sell 20% interest to his sister, Becky.
In 1998, Becky Behnen acquired control of interest in the casino after a protracted legal battle with her brother Jack. The fight ends with Jack being bought while maintaining a 1% interest in the casino so he can retain his Nevada game license. Jack moved to focus on Horseshoe Gaming Holding Corporation, running another casino under the Horseshoe brand. Behnen became president of Horseshoe while her husband, Nick, took over as manager.
Behnen implements some cost-cutting measures, most of which are unpopular with gamblers. Among the most notable are the removal of the $ 1 million Horseshoe exhibition, which has been sold to collector Jay Parrino, who has served as a backdrop for free photos of visitors.
He also made changes in the money distribution of entry fees in the unpopular World Series of Poker with casino dealers, and closed a popular casino restaurant. Benny used one of the tables in the restaurant as his office. Despite these measures, Horseshoe becomes stuck in debt. Under his father and brother, Horseshoe is reported to be the most lucrative casino in Las Vegas (it's held privately, so never had to report his earnings).
Behnen also attracted the attention of state regulators by not providing enough funds to pay the winners at the casino. Bob Stupak also attracted negative publicity to the casino when he tried to exchange a $ 5,000 casino token, some of which were kept in his own casino safe, and Becky refused to honor them.
Behnen's failure, however, is a dispute with a union representing some Horseshoe employees. In November 2002, the Culinary Workers Union and the Bartender Union filed a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board alleging that Behnen did not sign a collective labor agreement and left behind in the area of ​​health insurance and pension payments. The parties reached an agreement in March 2003 in which Horseshoe signed a collective agreement and agreed to pay the money owed. However, Horseshoe left behind his payment, leading a federal judge to issue two separate assessments that ordered Horseshoe to pay more than $ 1.5 million. The verdict gives the union the right to seize the money if routine payments are not met.
However, the casino stopped making payments in June. After several delays, on Dec. 5, the Culinary Union obtained a court order granting seizure of up to $ 1.9 million from the Horseshoe casino enclosure. The foreclosure occurred on 9 January; eventually federal marshals and IRS agents seized $ 1 million to cover debts owed to Southern Nevada Culinary and the Bartenders Pension Trust Fund and to Hotel Employee and International Union Restaurant Workers Welfare Fund. The foreclosure effectively depletes the Horseshoe bank fund, forcing it to close. A day later, the hotel was closed as well, and Behnen reached an agreement with the Nevada Gaming Commission to keep the casino closed until its bankroll was refilled. A few days later, on January 23, Behnen reached an agreement to sell Horseshoe to Harrah's Entertainment.
Post-Binion Families (2004-present)
Days after purchase by Harrah's closed, while retaining the Horseshoe and World Series of Poker brands, they sold the physical property and the Binion brand on March 11, 2004, to the MTR Gaming Group.
Binion reopened in April 2004, with MTR Gaming operating the hotel and Harrah's Entertainment operating the casino, while MTR Gaming completed the process of obtaining the required game license. Harrah's continued to operate the casino under a temporary contract until March 11, 2005, when the MTR formally took control of the casino operation and named it B Binion's Gambling Hall and Hotel.
MTR renovates casinos and hotels after purchase. The hallmark of this remodeling is replacing the casino's outdated carpet with the excess carpet that Benny Binion kept from the beginning of the casino carpet.
In July 2005, Binion hosted the main WSOP event for the last time. The tournament has gone beyond space in Binion, and Harrah wants to host one of his properties. In 2005, all events, except the last three tables of the main event, were played in the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino. The casino still maintains a large poker area and displays displays in Poker Hall of Fame as well as previous WSOP Champions.
On March 7, 2008, MTR sold its casino-hotel to TLC Casino Enterprises, owner of Four Queens, for $ 32 million.

Closing the hotel (2009-present)
When purchasing Binion, TLC announced plans to expand the hotel with a new tower, but on December 14, 2009, they closed the hotel and coffee shop due to the late 2000s recession. TLC continues to operate the hotel at the Four Queens casino across the street, which has almost twice as many rooms. Previously, Binion's advertised the hotel as being closed for renovation.
