Blue sky is the color name that resembles the color of the sky during the day. The entry for the "blue sky" at Murray New English Dictionary (1919) reports the first appearance of the term in the article on "silver" in Ephraim Chambers's Cyclopaedia in 1728 However, many authors have used the term "blue sky" for the color name before Chambers. For example, we found a "blue sky" at A Collection of Voyages and Travels (London: Awnsham and John Churchill, 1704), vol. 2, p.Ã, 322, where John Nieuhoff explains certain flowers: "they have a beautiful sky blue color, and yellow in the middle". The meaning of this color was probably first used in 1585 in a book by Nicolas de Nicolay where he declared "tulle of merchants to be colored skye ".
