Carice Anouk van Houten ( Dutch pronunciation: [ka: 'ris a:' nuk f? n ' (born September 5, 1976) is a Dutch actress and singer. He was born by radio theater-producer and theorist Theodore van Houten in Leiderdorp, The Netherlands. His younger sister Jelka is also an actress. He was exposed to performing arts at an early age and attended the Maastricht Academy of Arts Academy and the Kleinkunstacademie Cinema in Amsterdam. His first major role in the film Suzy Q (1999) won him the Golden Calf for Best Acting in Television Drama; two years later, he won the second Golden Calf for Best Actress for Undercover Kitty (2001).
She earned wide acclaim for her performance in the Black Book (2006), the most commercially successful commercial film to date, where she won the second Golden Calf for Best Actress, in addition to a nomination from the Chicago Film Critics Association, The European Film Academy, and the Film Critics Institute Online. She was nominated for the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for Valkyrie (2008), and won the fourth and fifth Golden Calf Award for Best Actress for The Happy Housewife (2010) and > Black Butterflies (2011). Other notable English contexts include Repo Men (2010), Black Death (2010), and Brimstone (2016).
Since 2012, Van Houten has received international recognition for his role as Melisandre on the HBO Game of Thrones (2012-present) television series, where he has been nominated for two Screen Actors Guild Awards for Extraordinary Performance by Ensemble in the Drama Series. After meeting Australian actor and musician Guy Pearce on the set of Brimstone in 2015, he gave birth to their first child the following year.

Acting career
Van Houten played his first lead role in the TV movie Martin Koolhoven Suzy Q . He won the Golden Calf for his part as Suzy. She also won the Pisuisse Award and the Top Naeff Award for her stage acting and another Golden Calf for her part as a kitten who became a woman at Undercover Kitty (2001). The first time he could be seen in theaters in the US was when Martin Koolhoven's AmnesiA (2001) got a small theatrical release. Van Houten won the Golden Calf for his performance as Rachel Stein at the Black Books (2006) at the Dutch Film Festival. Paul Verhoeven said about him in a television interview: "Never in my life have I worked with this talented actress," and when asked to compare it with Sharon Stone he said, "Carice can really act". The international press is also enthusiastic about his role in Black Book .

In May 2015, she plays Annika Van Houten (Milhouse's cousin) on "Let's Go Fly A Coot" episode of The Simpsons. He was chosen specifically for his last name.

In 2016 he appeared in Brimstone , his fourth collaboration with director Martin Koolhoven. Other cast members are Dakota Fanning, Kit Harington, and Guy Pearce.
Personal life
Van Houten befriends fellow Dutch actress Halina Reijn, whom she has known since 1994. They work together in the film Black Books and Valkyrie . In 2013, they published a book together titled Anti Glamor , style guides (mock) and their friendship celebrations, as well as an honest outlook to the back side of the stage that was not interesting in their life. Despite twice kissing in front of the camera, and joking about being a lesbian, there is no real romantic engagement.
Van Houten has stated that Hollywood makes him unhappy: "I've seen Hollywood, and although I'm not against it, it's not my type of life.I'm surprised that I want to live in Europe," adding, "If Hollywood offers my biggest part, I will accept it, but I do not want to live there. "
In March 2016 he announced that he was expecting his first child with Guy Pearce by the end of 2016. On 29 August 2016, Van Houten and Pearce announced the birth of their son, Monte Pearce.
She is a fan of Laurel and Hardy for life and in June 2016 she was called to The Ross Owen Show on Black Sky Radio to talk about her love for comedy duo.
