We Will Rock You (often abbreviated as WWRY ) is a musical based on British rock band Queen's songs with books by Ben Elton. Musical tells the story of a bunch of Bohemians who are struggling to return the free exchange of thoughts, fashions and live music in a distant future where everyone dresses, thinks and acts the same. Musical instruments and composers are forbidden, and rock music is almost unknown.
Directed by Christopher Renshaw and choreographed by Arlene Phillips, the original West End production opened at the Dominion Theater on May 14, 2002, with Tony Vincent, Hannah Jane Fox, Sharon D. Clarke and Kerry Ellis in the lead role. Although the musical was first composed by critics, the music has become a crowd favorite, becoming the longest musical at the Dominion Theater, celebrating its tenth anniversary on May 14, 2012.
The tenth longest musical in West End history, London production closed on 31 May 2014 after the last show in which Brian May and Roger Taylor both performed. A number of international productions have since followed the original, and We Will Rock You has been seen on six continents in the world. Many productions are still active globally.

Development
According to Brian May, manager of Queen Jim Beach has been talking with the band about creating jukebox music with Queen songs since the mid-1990s. Initially, the goal was to create a biography of Freddie Mercury. Around this time, the production company Robert De Niro, Tribeca expressed interest in the Queen's musical, but found the original idea difficult to overcome.
In 2000, Ben Elton was approached to begin talks with May and Taylor on the project. He suggested taking music on a different path than previously imagined, creating an original story that would capture the passion of much of their music. She works closely with May and Taylor to include the Queen's songs into the story. Elton also stated that he was partly inspired by computer-controlled dystopia from the science-fiction film The Matrix. The manuscript finally finished mid 2001.

Critical reception
The London critics almost uniformly highlighted the show, criticizing the concept and direction. The Guardian writes that the premise "really is the sixth form it sounds", called production "ruthlessly packaged and produced" and argues that the "sometimes cute" libretto exists primarily to "plan more ways it is impossible to blackmail other Queen's songs. "The Daily Mirror writes that" Ben Elton should be shot for this imaginable story. " The Daily Telegraph describes it as "guaranteed to make you stiff" and "prolefeed at its worst." However, some individual performances receive praise and production remains a popular success.

Casts
Summary: Original London Production
Invite One
The story is set exactly 300 years in the future in a vague Orwellian world. Earth has been renamed to "iPlanet" (Planet Mall in older production) and controlled by Globalsoft Company. ("Innuendo") On iPlanet, the main commercial compliance in power, in which Ga Ga Kids watched the same movie, listened to computer-generated music, dressed in the same outfit and held the same thoughts and opinions. Musical instruments are forbidden, and rock music is unknown. ("Radio Ga Ga")
In the recent graduation class is a scapegoat, Galileo, who has a dream and hears strange words on his head, most of which are long-lost song lyrics, although he does not understand their significance. Despite his teacher's advice, Galileo refused to fit in like his other classmates. ("I Want to Be Free") Galileo was arrested by Khashoggi, commander of Globalsoft police. The teacher also reveals the second anomaly, a young goth girl named Scaramouche who is openly ridiculed and mocked by her friends ("Somebody to Love"). He was also arrested by Khashoggi.
Ruling Globalsoft Corporation is a Killer Queen. ("Killer Queen") He has heard about the prophecy that the instrument has been hidden somewhere on iPlanet in "rock living place", and "bright star" will show the way to them. He ordered Khashoggi to get to the bottom of the matter and destroy the Bohemian rebels who believed in the prophecy. Killer Queen then mastered his power over the iPlanet. ("Play the game")
Galileo and Scaramouche woke up in the hospital. They realize that they are the same spirits, feared by their other communities. ("Under Pressure") They escaped together from the hospital. Killer Queen has blown up all the rocks in iPlanet, but can not find the instruments that should be hidden. He insists that they have won, and that prophecy will not happen. ("A Kind of Magic")
On the streets, Bohemians Britney and Oz get out of the gutter, where they collect materials to make musical instruments. Britney is a believer in Dreamers who will fulfill the prophecy, and insist on Oz being cynical that it is the key to bringing original music back to the world. ("I Want It All") Brit and Oz hear footsteps approaching, and hiding.
Galileo and Scaramouche arrived, with Galileo speaking of his belief that he had a destiny. He says that he has a name for the woman: "Scaramouche". Britney and Oz reveal themselves, and accuse Galileo and Scaramouche as spies, as Galileo continues to spout the words "sacred text". Galileo insisted that he only heard the words in his head. Britney tested Galileo, singing the first few lines of "Bohemian Rhapsody". Galileo responds correctly with the next line, and Britney realizes that he is a Dreamer of prophecy. They brought Galileo and Scaramouche to the Heartbreak Hotel, located at the ruins of the Tottenham Court Road tube station, where Bohemian has made their home. ("Headlong") For the record, the original production of London is staged at the Dominion Theater, located on top of the actual Tottenham Road Road tube station.
The Bohemians explained that they took their names after the long-time singers left, and mourned over the deaths of those who died young. ("No One but You") The group later celebrated the reason rock band started playing music in the first place, which is for love. ("The crazy little thing is called love")
Khashoggi and the police suddenly arrived at the Heartbreak Hotel, where they gathered the Bohemians to be arrested. Britney breaks free and police battles to allow Galileo and Scaramouche to flee, but in the process are killed.
Invite Two
The Ga Ga Kids from iPlanet are moving in their regular fashion. ("One vision")
Galileo and Scaramouche had escaped from the Heartbreak Hotel, and realized that back to the hospital, a tracking device was installed in their heads. They remove it, and after realizing that they are all that remains of the rebels, they confess their love for each other. ("Who wants to live forever")
The surviving Bohemian has been captured by Khashoggi for torture. ("Flash") When he can not get any information from them about the prophecy, he makes them exhausted. ("Seven Seas of Rhye" - interpolation "Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon")
Galileo woke up, and told Scaramouche that he dreamed that the Bohemian family was sent to the Seven Seas of Rhye. Scaramouche agrees they should go there, but then Galileo insists that he remains because he is a "girl", to which Scaramouche is offended. They argue, and decide that both will go to the Seven Seas of Rhye, but their relationship will be purely professional.
Back at Globalsoft headquarters ("Girls Fat Girls") Khashoggi reports that Bohemian is no longer a problem. Killer Queen prematurely began to celebrate. ("Do not Stop Me Now") Khashoggi interrupts him, explaining that Galileo and Scaramouche are running away. Killer Queen says this is the last time Khashoggi let him down, and made him run out of brains. ("Another One Bites the Dust")
Galileo and Scaramouche were heading to the Seven Seas of Rhye, arguing along the way. ("Hammer to Fall") At the Seven Seas of Rhye pub in Montreaux, Pop librarian serves drinks for the lifeless Bohemian. "When Galileo and Scaramouche arrived, Pop explained the full nature of the prophecy to them as written by the three remaining members of Queen's band just before they were sentenced to death (Brian May, his last request being a guitar solo end, apparently postponing his execution for three and a half days). Scaramouche learned that the bright star of the prophecy was a statue of rock star Freddie Mercury, and it pointed to Wembley Stadium, the "stone residence". After initially preparing to travel on a bicycle, (opening "Bike Racing") Scaramouche protested that the method was "not too cool", and they traveled there on a motorbike. ("Headlong (reprise)")
Wembley Stadium ruins, with no instruments to be found. Reconciliation and their love for mutual revival ("Love of My Life"), Scaramouche inspired Galileo to perform the opening of "We Will Rock You", and the electric guitar was revealed. Galileo could not play it, but Scaramouche could. ("Brighton Rock solo") Pop hacks to the Globalsoft network so their music can be heard by everyone on iPlanet, and Killer Queen is defeated. ("Tie Your Mother Down", "We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions")
After the curtain call ("We Will Rock You ), a question that says" Do you want 'Bohemian Rhapsody'? " Everyone in the audience should yell yes, and the answer comes up as "Oh... okay then" and all players do "Bohemian Rhapsody" as an encore. Variations
The international production of the music features changes in the storyline and song to better reach the target audience. All the main characters retain their common personality throughout the production, but the name varies depending on the production. (See the character section below).
The dialogue contains many references to popular culture, with lyrics of many non-queen songs and albums inserted into the text. These references are constantly changing, and according to Elton's author, this is to keep the event "fresh". The songs that have been referenced include The Beatles "Help!", "Strawberry Fields Forever", "Penny Lane", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", "I Am the Walrus" and "Hello, Goodbye, Little Little Richard "Tutti Fruitti" and "Long Tall Sally", themes from The Wombles, The Goodies '"Funky Gibbon", Bruce Springsteen "Born to Run", "Rebel Rebel" David Bowie and "Space Oddity", The Wild Ones' "Wild Thing ", Rolling Stones'" Honky Tonk Women ", Bob Dylan" Mr. Tambourine Man ", ABBA's" Dancing Queen "and" Fernando ", Oasis'" (What's the Story) Morning Glory? ", Eminem's" The Real Slim Shady ", Spice Girls'" Wannabe ", Elton John" Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "," Agadoo "Black Lace, The Clash's" Complete Control ", Teletubbies songs by Amy Winehouse and Michael Jackson.
Probably often do with London production on special occasions such as the anniversary and Freddie Mercury's birthday.
Hannah Jane Fox, who is a Scaramouche origin, is the original lead original member to stick with the show. He gave his final performance on January 28, 2006, four years after the musical was opened at the Dominion Theater, and the event was celebrated with May performing on stage to perform guitar solos during the Bohemian Rhapsody concert.
On September 5, 2006, the London show celebrated Freddie Mercury's 60th birthday. During the song "Do not Stop Me Now", usually sung by Killer Queen, the band "McFly" (which was at No. 1 with the song on the singles charts the previous week) came onto the stage to sing it instead. Brian May and Roger Taylor joined the encore, featuring Taylor's "Say It's Not True" as a duo. Ben Elton also spoke to the audience on this special occasion. The following week, tickets to the London show sold out of Ã, à £ 19.46, the year of Mercury's birth.
On May 14, 2007, the London show celebrated its fifth anniversary with a special show featuring both May and Taylor playing at the end of the show. Writer Ben Elton also made an appearance to present a special plaque to the players, May and Taylor. During part of the Pop-based event, the line "But the Landlord Pub has Bicycles" was followed by a British comedian cameo appearance of Al Murray, who came through the stage on a motorcycle.
The London show's sixth anniversary show was held on May 21, 2008, a week after the actual birthday due to Brian May's unavailability. For the first time since the show opened, the Killer Queen character featured all the songs "Do not Stop Me Now", a musical number that is usually interrupted by the Khashoggi character. This unique appearance is acknowledged by the dialogue of the Queen Killer: "No, you do not let me finish, you never let me finish. For six long years, night after night, week after week, year by year. Now, tonight, m to be finished. "To which Khashoggi replied:" It is not in the manuscript! " The Killer Queen started shouting, "Destroy the script!" before continuing the song. In addition, May joined the Killer Queen and the dancers on stage for the show. After the encore, Elton thanked, afterwards the cast performed "The Show Must Go On", accompanied by May on guitar.
The seventh anniversary of the London Show is celebrated on Monday, May 18, 2009. The show features special appearances from Brian May and Ben Elton who appeared together in a smoke cloud during the "Bohemian Rhapsody" encore show with May playing the guitar. Like the year before, Elton gave thanks and the entire cast featured "The Show Must Go On", accompanied by May on guitar.
On Saturday 12 September 2009 at the start of the daytime performance Brian May reappeared in a cloud of smoke playing guitar in "Bohemian Rhapsody". What chance for this appearance is not clear. He did the same thing again on Saturday 14 November 2009 at the show that afternoon.
On Sunday 31 January 2010 at The O2 Dublin, Brian May once again played Bohemian Rhapsody with the company during the end of a day and afternoon show to celebrate the end of a year-long tour.
On Saturday 5th September 2010 Brian also appears despite the smoke cloud, again playing "Bohemian Rhapsody". This is due to the annual player changes, as well as the celebration of Freddie Mercury's 64th birthday, and afterwards Brian gives a farewell speech to the players who are leaving.
On Saturday 5 October 2013, Brian appears through a cloud of smoke to play Bohemian Rhapsody once more. This is because it changes and some players leave. Brian looks very emotional when giving a talk.
Events with Queen
Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor often perform at premiere shows and special events. Bassist John Deacon left Queen in 1997, and has not performed with May or Taylor ever since.
When Bohemian Rhapsody performed with Brian and Roger, Brian emerged from a smoke-filled trap (only at the Dominion Theater, where he walked from the Wembley gate behind, to the front of the stage.) He performed a solo just before the opera. Then the opera part begins, he walks off the stage. Doing the headbanging part of Roger appears on the Heartbreak Hotel platform and Brian walks back on stage (only at Dominion Theater.. Elsewhere Roger's drum kit is being pushed by a stage crew and Brian walks on stage.) They do headbanging parts with the cast and key low. They ended it all with a big end before the stage went dark.
